The Shimano Ultegra 5500 XTD Spinning Reel (Ref. ULT5500XTD) is a mid-sized compact big pit reel engineered by Shimano, highly favored by anglers for its long-casting capabilities and stealthy matt-black cosmetics. Tailored specifically for light surfcasting, heavy feeder, and carp angling, this model combines legendary Japanese engineering with advanced line-lay and gear transmission systems.

Hagane Gearing, Super Slow 5 Oscillation, and Instant Drag System

Shimano engineered the Ultegra 5500 XTD focusing on casting performance, flawless line lay, and fighting power:

  • Super Slow 5 Oscillation & Aero Wrap: Super slow spool oscillation delivers precise parallel line wrapping onto the spool, drastically reducing casting friction and maximizing overall casting distance.
  • Hagane Gear & X-Ship Integration: Precision cold-forged drive gears supported by X-Ship dual bearing alignment provide immense cranking power and ultra-smooth rotational performance under heavy load.
  • Instant Drag High-Speed Adjustment: Features a rapid front drag setup allowing anglers to switch from free-spool mode to solid drag tension with a quick half-turn of the drag knob.
  • Parallel Body & G-Free Body Architecture: Aligns the spool parallel to the rod blank to prevent line slap on the blank during power casts, while shifting the center of gravity closer to the grip for superior rod balance.
  • Includes Spare Spool & Line Reducers: Comes equipped with an extra aluminum spool and two sets of line reducers (4500 and 3500 sizes) to optimize braid or monofilament line capacity without backing.

Usage: The definitive compact big pit reel choice for Light Surfcasting, Medium-Distance Shore Ledgering, Heavy Saltwater Feeder, and Medium-Water Carp Angling.
